BGHNC holds staff appreciation family fun day

Laughter and conversation filled the air around the pavilion on the campus of the Boys and Girls Homes of North Carolina on Saturday, May 21 as the nonprofit organization held a staff appreciation family fun day.

“Our staff works hard every day to provide an environment of care that promotes health, healing, and hope among the children, youth, and families we serve,” said BGHNC President/CEO Ricky Creech. “We would not be the organization we are without the staff doing their best each and every day. I often share that I have been blessed to be able to lead the organization and tell the story. I know that it is the staff that are making a difference every day in the lives of the children, youth, and families. It was especially important to provide a tangible expression of that appreciation.”

The special event featured inflatables and a dunking booth in addition to sack races and other games for the entire family. Campus youth joined the fun that also included a cookout, snow cones, cotton candy, and popcorn.

“We are especially grateful to the volunteers from Peace Baptist Church for their willingness to come out to staff the event so that all of our staff could enjoy the festivities without being on the job,” said Volunteer Mobilization Coordinator Lisa Brown. “We could not have put this event on without them.”

In addition to the volunteers, a variety of sponsors provided door prizes so that all the staff in attendance would win a prize. These gifts were sponsored by BGHNC, the Country Nursery, Verizon, Show Ridez, Lisa Brown, Angelina’s, El Juan’s, Pierce & Co., Truist Bank, Land O’ Lakes Golf Course, Black’s Tire & Auto Service, Whiteville Nutrition, Madison & Main, Jersey Mike’s, Dale’s Seafood Lake Waccamaw, Pizza Village, Dollar General and Home Depot.

“We worked hard to have a variety of items that would be appreciated by all of the staff,” said Brown. “Our grand prize drawings included a weeklong stay at a condo on Myrtle Beach in September and eight pairs of tickets to a Carolina Panthers home game.”
