Halloween celebration at Boys & Girls Homes a chance for normalcy for youth

For 2023, Boys & Girls Homes decided to introduce a new Halloween tradition for our youth on campus -- Halloween Trick-Or-Treat Celebration and Best Costume Contest. Staff decorated their offices and hallways and dressed up to greet residential youth trick-or-treaters on Halloween afternoon. Four area civic clubs also sponsored a Trunk-or-Treat with games and candy for Boys and Girls Homes youth including Wilmington Lions Club, Lake Waccamaw Lions Club, South Brunswick Island Rotary Club and Whiteville Rotary Club. According to President and CEO Marc Murphy, the event organized by our campus Sunshine Committee, "shows an accessibility I want the kids to have with all of our staff."

Mr. Murphy - dressed as the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man from "Ghostbusters" -- also led staff in a parade through Lake Waccamaw businesses and Thomas Academy to greet customers and students.
