More than 200 people attended the 10th anniversary celebration of Light the Lake on April 13 at the Boys and Girls Homes Farm. Families played games, blew bubbles, ate fried apple twists and barbecue, and children had a blast bounding through the five different bouncy houses at the event.
The Light the Lake and evening walk on a portion of Lake Waccamaw commemorated Child Abuse Awareness Month in April but also marked the 25th anniversary of foster care and 20th anniversary of adoption services through the nonprofit. BGHNC President and CEO Marc Murphy read the names of three children killed in the last six months in Columbus County and held a moment of silence recognizing the tragedy of their losses.
At 5 p.m, about 50 people joined the Light the Lake commemorative walk, holding candles in remembrance of children who died because of child abuse. To see more photos from the event, please visit our Facebook page here.
