This is the love story behind the story of how the Grace for the Kids series came to be. Longtime supporter David Thomas wanted to do something lasting for his wife and former BGHNC board member Grace Thomas.
Because of the rising numbers of children needing homes in our state, Boys & Girls Homes Foster Care program was in need of a recruitment tool to help boost its foster parent numbers, especially in the growth areas of New Hanover and Brunswick counties.
So we proposed a partnership with WECT News, a partially-sponsored beat called Grace for the Kids, where reporters would feature a family in our foster care program each month in 2026. This week, Grace for the Kids kicks off at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 7 on WECT and every first Wednesday of the month this year.
We hope to feature stories showing foster families who have adopted multiple children, foster families who only offer respite care to children who have just been removed from their biological parents, features on foster children who are aging out of the system and much more.
Please tune in this week and call us at 910-646-3083 if you're interested in becoming a foster parent or read more and ask your questions about our foster-to-adopt program here.
